On March 4, 2025, a trial team of Matthew A. Luber, Esq., R. Armen McOmber, Esq., and Jeffrey D. Ragone, Esq., from the law firm of McOmber McOmber & Luber, P.C. secured a $95,000 Jury Verdict. During the punitive damages phase, the lawsuit was settled for $425,000.00.
The lawsuit was originally filed over six years ago in Camden County Superior Court on behalf of Plaintiff Mat Rivera, a former parking lot attendant at McRech, Inc. d/b/a Turnersville Chrysler Jeep Dodge & Ram. Mr. Rivera claimed he reported and complained to the dealership that he was subjected to a racially hostile working environment by his manager. Less than two months later, Mr. Rivera asserted he was subject to retaliation, culminating in his wrongful termination in September 2018.
Following a four-day trial, the jury concluded that Mr. Rivera was subjected to unlawful race discrimination and retaliation, and awarded Mr. Rivera $89,000 in emotional distress damages and $6,000 in back pay damages.
“After six years of litigation, the jury concluded that the dealership completely failed to protect our client from egregious discrimination, harassment, and retaliation in the workplace. We are so proud of our client for standing up for himself, for civil rights, and, in particular, for having the courage and fortitude to hold those responsible accountable. The jury sent a clear message to employers that such conduct will not be tolerated.” Matthew A. Luber, Esq., McOmber McOmber & Luber, P.C.
