New Jersey Civil Certified Attorney

McOmber McOmber & Luber, P.C. Partner Designated as Certified Civil Trial Attorney by the Supreme Court of New Jersey

In Spring 2019, partner R. Armen McOmber was designated by the Supreme Court of New Jersey as Certified Civil Trial Attorney which allows our firm to be solely responsible for referred cases and pay competitive referral fees to attorneys for employment, personal injury, class action, false claims act, and other cases. In 1980, the Supreme Court of New Jersey established this certification program in an effort to help provide credibility to a small percentage of those practicing in their particular area of the law.

The designation is awarded to attorneys through the Board on Attorney Certification based upon experience, education, knowledge and skill in civil trial law. The standards set by the Supreme Court are high; in fact, the designation is held by only 2% of the practicing attorneys in the state. Specifically, in order to qualify, attorney candidates must do the following:

  • Possess an unblemished reputation based on the evaluations of attorney peers and judges who attest to their character;
  • Pass a specific written examination concerning the specific area of certification;
  • Be in good standing with the New Jersey Bar for at least five years;
  • Complete a specific number of continuing legal education courses in the years preceding certification; and
  • Demonstrate a “substantial level of involvement” in the preparation of litigated matters.

The certification program was established not only to protect consumers from false advertising but to raise the level of competence in particular areas of law.

Why You Should Choose and Designate a Certified Civil Trial Attorney by the Supreme Court of New Jersey

While there are thousands of practicing attorneys in New Jersey, as a potential client, it can be difficult to figure out who is specifically qualified in a particular area. A number of attorneys hold themselves out as being specialized in practicing in certain areas without necessarily having the qualifications or experience necessary to do the best job possible in that practice area.

Civil litigation is an especially rigorous practice—you want to ensure that anyone you work with is qualified and has that trial experience, as it involves a different skill set than simply working on cases. Therefore, choosing an attorney who has earned this honor helps to ensure that you are working with someone who has exceeded certain standards when it comes to civil trial litigation.
